This is a public hearing and will decide our legal status - we can promise a very interesting court case moulding the shape of German school law for decades to come! It will decide whether over one hundred so-called supplementary schools will have to close (or face insolvency) since their status and fee structure contravenes article 7 of the German constitution. Although we were the only school compliant by far, they wanted to close us - now we probably close them, although that was the very last thing we wanted ...

We are an independent social service provider incorporated as a charitable society. Our progressive schools and child care facilities (planned) are based on our unique pedagogical concept Arete, integrating earlier concepts such as were desgned by Maria Montessori, Celestin Freinet, Peter Petersen (Jenaplan) and many others.

Some of our facilities are still in planning phase. We started with our primary school in 2005 in Mannheim, adding secondary school facilities in 2006; child care facilities are in planning phase. Our school fees depend on family income (in accordance with article 7, section 4 of the German constitution). Minimum monthly fee 150 € (full-time school ending between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.).

There are very many factors that determine the intelligence of a human being regardless of age. Certainly all parents long for their children to develop their innate abilities to the fullest, however, there is a general belief that intelligence is largely determined by a person's genes, that it's simply inherited. We believe that while a child is always born with certain traits that set him or her apart from even their parents and siblings, let alone the rest of mankind, their brain and intelligence by and large are like their bodily frame, e.g. their muscles, highly malleable (called the "plasticity of the brain" in modern neuroscience).
